At the pool as a 15-year-old teenager, I was trying
some aerials off the high dive. As I dove into the water I experienced
a searing pain at the base of my skull and down into my arms. Weakly
paddling to the side of the pool I laid motionless on the cement for 20 minutes.
A friend’s mother came over to check on me and realized I was in pain. Asking
if I wished to go home, I agreed happily. On the trip home she repeatedly
told me of the chiropractor she worked for and the great things he was doing
to help people. Not knowing what chiropractic was, I respectfully
declined the offer. That afternoon I received a phone call from Dr. James
Sheaffer. With sympathy, Dr. Sheaffer asked what had happened and
wondered if I would like to come in for an appointment...right then! I asked
my parents and they agreed to take me into Dr. Sheaffer’s office.
In the presence of Dr. Sheaffer I immediately felt better. His enthusiastic
personality made me feel comfortable. After learning that he had left a barbeque
to come into the office that Saturday afternoon, I realized Dr. Sheaffer
was a different kind of Doctor, he seemed to care. After explaning
what it was to get an adjustment followed by a myriad of positions and pops,
I sat up with a euphoric giddy feeling. He gave me some brief instructions
on home care and sent me on my way. The next day I received another phone
call from Dr. Sheaffer to check in, and asked if I wished to come into the
office for another appointment, on Sunday afternoon! I accepted because the
pain had not fully resolved. After the second adjustment, I knew this
was where I needed to be. After years of encouragement I enrolled in Chiropractic
school, and Dr. Sheaffer and I still remain close friends.
Originally from York, Pennsylvania I grew up learning the art of Karate and Wrestling, instilling a great self-discipline. Going through high school I participated in football, wrestling and baseball.
While attending college at Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania I studied Health Sciences. During that time I was on the wrestling team and participated in the Big Brother program. Being involved with the Big Brother program gave me a sense of purpose and respect toward being a role model. I also worked in the school gym and offered time to give strength training sessions.
While attending Chiropractic College I joined
in technique and neurology clubs where I learned nine different adjusting
techniques and gained advanced training in Neurology, Neuro-Emotional-Technique,
Gonstead, and Coupled Adjustments. This experience allows me to facilitate
a comfortable adjustment based on the needs of all individuals. My
background in neurology gives me the ability to balance brain activity and
improve efficiency of brain function.
My current hobbies include wrestling, baseball, football, running, working out, motorcycles, backpacking, fishing, mountain biking, nutrition/supplementation, reading and traveling. I aspire to create community involvement/outreach programs, education (preferably teach a High School Anatomy class and inspire young minds), and Coach for a local wrestling team.
